Should sex education be taught in public schools? Why or why not?

Should sex education be taught in public schools? In my opinion, sex education should be taught in school. Not only does this teach students the risks of having sex, but also teaches them the proper procedures to practicing safe sex if they decide to do so. Also, many parents neglect talking with their children about sex because they don't want to subject their children to this at such a young age. However, in the long run I think it is better to start the conversation early.
Sex education taught in public schools informs students that there are many risks taken in having sex. Most young students think of getting pregnant as the most important risk, but sex education teaches them there are alot more serious consequences. It teaches them about sexually transmitted diseases that they probably know nothing about, and would probably never know anything about them if it wasn't for sex education.
Also, it teaches the best ways to practice safe sex set aside abstinence. The teacher not only tells the students about the many different condoms, but also teaches them how to use them. They even go into such detail as showing them how to put them on. They also let the students know about rape and sexual assault.
Many parents disagree with teaching their children about sex at such a young age, however i disagree. If the parents don't talk to their children about sex and there's no sex education taught in school, I'm almost quite sure we would have more babies having babies than we do now. I'm not saying to encourage your children to have sex, and neither is sex education, but hopefully with the sex education classes, it will teach them enough to be too scared to engage in sexual activity at such a young age.
In conclusion, I have given you the reasons I think sex education should be taught in school, and I hope this encourages more parents to work along with the sex education classes. In doing so, maybe we can improve the statistics of the sexually transmitted diseases and the children that can barely take of themselves from having babies.
